Melissa just started working with us about a month ago, and has become an important part of the team. She has worked in the field for about 4 years now, and came to us from the Veterinary Specialty Center in Lynwood but has worked in other clinics as well as volunteered at the Humane Society as a small animal foster parent. She has fostered mostly bunnies, about 5 so far and some other small critters for short periods of time. When she was little, Melissa was set on her animal based careers already, telling her family members that she wanted to be a herpetologist (the study of reptiles and amphibians, if you were curious) but she’s always had animals growing up and been interested in figuring out how to help them and keep them healthy. She has 1 bird, 1 tortoise, 1 bearded dragon, 2 bunnies, 1 ferret, 2 cats and finally a dog named Shelby at home. When she’s not taking care of her animals, she likes to draw & paint. The best part of the job for her is the client interaction, and helping clients through the harder side of pet ownership, lending an ear and being able to empathize with them during the tough situations being made.
